WELDING

OTT are proud to say that we have an experienced and competent Welding Division. Our team is multi-disciplined, highly motivated and driven by quality.

OTT’s staff are trained in all facets of railway welding. This allows us to support all welding needs, such as essential repairs within Pway maintenance to delivering continuous welded rail, during track renewal projects. In addition, OTT owns an extensive range of battery-powered welding equipment maintained to the manufacturer’s standards and updated regularly. We also use several hire partners to support us during spikes in workload.

Our Services include

TW3

Thermit welding process, for standard gap welds of various grades, and wide gap L80 to remove defects such as failed welds.

RT4

The Pandrol welding process is used for standard gap welds of various grades, and a wide gap of 68mm to support the removal of defects such as failed welds. The teams are also trained in HWR (Head Wash Repair), which is also for removing rail defects on plain line, such as squats. Pandrol incorporates a dedicated weld database, accessible by an app.

Our welders are trained and registered on the app for recording and traceability of every Pandrol weld as it is installed. OTT is preparing to embrace new innovations from Pandrol, such as the new HFP (High Flow Preheater). This reduces welder error, in turn, reduces possible weld defects and eliminates the need to use oxygen.

FCAW 1-2

OTT Welders have followed Network Rail in adopting the far superior FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding) process, with welders trained to carry out Crossing and Plain-line repairs, from LCAMS (Low Carbon Austenitic Manganese Steel) to normal grade rails and crossings.

Our aim is to progress on to switchblade repairs, following Network Rail approvals for training. OTT are the first in Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland to adopt this process, which aligns with our core value to lead and innovate.

At On Track Technicians, we are equipped to deliver the Pandrol aluminothermic welding process. Pandrol's innovative technology uses the self-sealing welding mould, which has streamlined the aluminothermic welding process, saving up to five minutes per weld.

Our team members are well-versed in the intricacies of this advanced system, having undergone training up to RT4 standards. This training includes mastering the HWR (Head wash repair) process, a crucial technique for addressing plain line head defects. By incorporating these specialised skills, we are better equipped to handle a wide range of welding challenges, ensuring our work's highest quality and precision.

We at OTT can support your project from the planning stages to possession management, rerailing, welding, stressing and Hand Back of the track. At each stage safety of staff and the travelling public is at the forefront of all we do.
